Symptom of flu infection

Symptoms of flu infection in humans depend on the particular strain of virus.

About one or two days after exposures, flu symptoms come on suddenly, with shivering and generalized aching in the arms, legs and back.

The patient may have a headache aching eyes, a sore or dry throat and sometimes a cough, difficulty breathing and a runny nose.

Occasionally there may also be the symptoms of a stomach upset, with vomiting and diarrhea.

A cough appears on the second or third day, followed by a drop in fever with drenching sweats by the third to fifth day.

The symptoms and fever continue for two to five days and leave the patient feeling tired and weak. After the symptoms have subsided he or she may also depressed and fatigued.

Young children may not have typical symptoms, but may have difficulty breathing and low activity.
